Over the past few days we have been trying to keep up to date with the ever-changing information regarding what Stage 4 restrictions mean for Allied Health Care in Victoria.
Fortunately Chiropractic care is able to remain open but under very strict guidelines which are focused on saving and protecting the lives of all Victorians through restricting non-essential movement across the state for the next six weeks. Please read below for specific information:
KEY POINTS
NO REFERRAL REQUIRED
Patients do not need a medical referral to see their chiropractor.
ROUTINE CARE IS NOT PERMITTED
Care must only be provided if the absence of, or delay of this care, would result in a significant change or deterioration in the patient’s functional independence necessitating escalation of care.
Examples provided by the DHHS of when it is appropriate for care to be provided include the following:
1. To avoid a requirement for specialist input/review
2. To avoid an increase in care needs and/or alternate accommodation
3. To avoid a hospital admission or emergency department presentation.
For this reason, care should only be provided if it is considered ‘essential’ for the next 6 weeks and where not receiving care is likely to lead to a significant deterioration in the health or well-being of the patient. In all other circumstances we must not see a patient for a face-to-face consultation. This is a legal requirement.
All patients with upcoming appointments will be contacted by clinic staff directly to discuss options and we kindly request that you reschedule your appointment if you do not meet the stated criteria. Please remember that masks are absolutely necessary for your appointment. Thank you for your patience and understanding through these strange and difficult times.
Dr Michael Black is available at both the Manningham Road Chiropractic Centre in Doncaster and the Armadale Chiropractic Centre during this six weeks for patients with acute pain or conditions that affect your sleep, well-being and work. We are required to keep case notes that describe your condition and how it is impacting you.
