Dry Needling

What is Dry Needling?

Dry Needling is a therapeutic treatment where acupuncture needles are inserted through the skin into tight and painful nodules in the muscle called trigger points.

What are trigger points?

Trigger points are a palpable nodule in muscle tissue which cause pain, referred pain and stiffness. They’re often associated with prior injury.

How does Dry Needling help with trigger points?

There are numerous ways to treat trigger points. Massage, cross friction therapy and stretching are a few of the ways of treating them. The advantage of Dry Needling is that it is precise and can often be less uncomfortable than other soft tissue therapies. Resulting in quick and effortless pain relief.

What does Dry Needling feel like?

Most patients either report no discomfort or a mild “dull” sensation once the needle has been inserted into the trigger point. In some cases, referred pain can arise which is a reproduction of the patient’s pain complaint. This is completely normal and dissipates as the treatment progresses.

It often results in pain reduction and an increase in Range Of Motion.
